Persuaded to Pray

These testimonies to the work of Yeshua Hamashiach are very small compared to the tremendous things we are hearing in these days but Yeshua said:

10 "He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much." Luke 16:10 KJV.

In Cairo, we had an elderly lady to care for who was very difficult. Her behaviour was erratic and she demanded her own way. She also seemed to sulk and if she couldn't have her own way, she would refuse to eat and remain in bed. Once I even saw her lie down on the floor, arch her back and kick her heels over some small issue.

Her condition deteriorated over a period of time and eventually there was an occasion when this poor woman refused to eat, drink, communicate or get out of bed, even for the bathroom. This episode had lasted for more than one day and the care staff were at the end of their resources. We had called in doctors in white coats (to look 'official'), doctors without coats (to look friendly), friends and relatives, and all to no avail.

I had become frustrated and angry with the situation and not knowing what to do, avoided going to her room. However, whilst on my rounds, I was taken by the hand by one of the carers (not known to be a faith-filled believer) who insisted that I looked in on the resident to pray. At first I refused thinking I had nothing to give - had no idea how to pray for her and felt it was no use. This carer, however, became very insistent and refused to take no for an answer. She said: "Pray, Mama Sharon, pray. You must. It's your job!!" Then she said: "Oh what can we do?"

Well, I gave in, thinking at least it was a bigger sin to refuse to pray. I entered the room, which by now was fairly smelly and began to pray. When I mentioned the name of Jesus, the woman screamed and told me to stop. The carer left and another carer called Hala came in. I told her to sit down, keep out of the way and pray. The woman screamed again and Hala quickly put her head down and prayed. (Hala had never heard of praying in tongues and I hoped she thought I was praying in English but she knew I wasn't and I briefly explained. We continued to pray ignoring the screams and protests. We prayed on and on for more than an hour and eventually, our subject of prayer became silent and fell asleep and after giving thanks to God we left her in His hands.

The next day arriving on duty I did the rounds as usual but this day I was definitely not going to visit this resident. After all I thought, I had spent so much time with her yesterday and there were many others who needed attention so when I heard her name mentioned I turned around to slip away unnoticed but the same carer ran after me and again took me by the hand. "Please come and see Tante ......"

"No sorry, not today"
"But you must see her."
"No sorry, definitely not."
"But you don't understand..."

"Look, I spent too much time with her yesterday, there is nothing I can do, we shall have to contact the relatives."

"But, Madame Sharon" the carer shouted, becoming very formal. "You do not understand. Tante.... Is better. She is walking about, up and dressed, had a washed and is tidying her cupboards. I've never seen her like this, she is normal."

Not really believing, I gave in again, as once an Egyptian makes his/her mind up it is easier to go with the flow and walked into her room.

I could not believe what I was seeing. This dear woman, was indeed up and dressed, had even cast aside her walking aid and was in her right mind. She spoke to me in perfect, genteel English saying:

"Thank you very much for all you have all done. I'm better now and am packing my bag ready to go home. I'm sorry to have been so much trouble."

She did indeed leave for home and as far as I heard continued to do well.

Hallelujah! Give God the glory!! Amen.
